Assessing usability capability of a large software house

Abstract

Usability capability determines how consistently and to which extent an organization is capable of generating products with good usability. The thesis presented a usability capability assessment on the two software development divisions of the Company. The assessment is based on several assessment models, considering organizational, strategic, and project level attributes. Furthermore, the development of the Company usability capability during a period of one year was reported, and several suggestions to improve this capability were provided. The assessment was performed applying a combination of a survey targeting software development project personnel at the Company, and series of interviews with members of management. The results of the assessment indicated a need for improvement in the usability capability of the Company.

Käytettävyyskypsyys määrittää, kuinka johdonmukaisesti tuotanto-organisaatio pystyy luomaan tuotteita, joiden käytettävyys on korkeata luokkaa. Diplomityössä arvioitiin kohdeyrityksen ohjelmistotuotanto-divisioonien käytettävyyskypsyys. Tuloksena oli kypsyysarvio, joka perustuu usealle arviointimallille ja arvioi organisatorisia, strategisia ja käytännön projektityöhön liittyviä tekijöitä. Lisäksi esiteltiin kohdeyrityksen käytettävyyskypsyyden kehitys yhden vuoden aikana ja tehtiin parannusehdotuksia kehityksen jatkamiseksi. /Kir10
