The development of inter-company logistics

Abstract

The objective of the thesis was to improve the operational inter-company forecast-order-delivery process. The main goal was to develop the delivery accuracy, because it was found to be on an unsatisfactory level and it affected both plant´s ability to manage production and delivery schedules. The study was conducted in co-operation with the people involved in the inter-company process and production personnel of the plants. The framework for process development was derived from supply chain ant network management. Production networks describe the operational environment where the companies operate. Modeling and understanding the current operational process is the premise for defining the problems in the process. The main focus of the plants was to manufacture and deliver final products and the plants deliver components mainly to inter-company customers. Unstandardized process and undefined materials result to fluctuations in the delivery performance. Measuring the process performance revealed that delivery accuracy wasn´t the only problem in the process but the variability of lead times of the major components was significant. Forecasting was identified essential for reserving capacity and materials for the major components. However there were many problems associated with the current process of forecasting that lead to inefficient exploitation of the forecasts. Information exchange and reliable delivery information were also recognized as critical for managing the inter-company process.

AB3:Diplomityön tavoitteena oli konsernin kahden yksikön välisen tilaus-toimitus-prosessin kehittäminen. Yksiköt valmistavat samantyyppisiä tuotteita ja toimittavat toisilleen niihin liittyviä kokonaisuuksia sekä komponentteja. Prosessin kehittämisen tärkeimmäksi tekijäksi määriteltiin toimitusvarmuus, koska prosessin nykyinen toimitusvarmuus ei ollut tyydyttävällä tasolla. Keskinäisen tilaus-toimitus-prosessin heikolla suorituskyvyllä oli vaikutuksia myös tehtaiden lopputuotteiden toimituskykyyn. Tutkimustyön ensimmäiseen vaiheeseen kuului kaksi osa-aluetta: nykyisen prosessin mallintaminen sekä prosessiin liittyvien materiaalien analysoiminen. Operatiivinen ennuste-tilaus-toimitus -prosessi mallinnettiin vuokaavioiden avulla. Vuokaaviot rakennettiin perustuen operatiivisen henkilöstön haastatteluihin. Prosessikuvauksiin kuvattiin ongelmakohdat haastattelujen sekä toiminnanohjausjärjestelmästä kerätyn tiedon perusteella. Työssä kehitetty prosessi perustuu nykyistä parempaan materiaalien hallintaan sekä tehokkaampaan informaation vaihtoon. Prosessi koostuu kahdesta eri osasta: toimitusketjuvalintamallista sekä operatiivisesta prosessista. Ensimmäisessä mallissa esitettiin vaihtoehtoja erityyppisten tarpeiden hankintakanaviksi. Mallin tarkoituksena oli tukea standardoitua komponenttilistaa, joka määrittelee, miten nimikettä hallinnoidaan komponenttien tilaus-toimitus-prosessissa. Standardoidut nimikkeet kuuluvat ennusteeseen ja niiden sisällyttäminen komponenttilistaan edellyttää vuosikulutuksen, toimitusajan sekä hinnan määrittelemistä.
