Wireless Internet voice terminal

Abstract

This thesis describes communications software for a dual-mode Internet telephony terminal. Developed software provides seamless roaming between different telephony technologies. Software autosenses telephony technology selection and transitions between technologies and network infrastructures on behalf of the user. Usability of the software does not change when the telephony technology is changed. Implemented software is based on the use of H.323 multimedia protocol and GSM protocol. Software facilitates the movement of Internet hosts between networks. Software is implemented in the Windows NT platform and it consists of user interface, H.323 controller module and audio-handling module. The implementation has been successfully has been finished, so the software architecture presented in this thesis has proven to be technically feasible. This software implementation is based on existing standards and technologies. The result of the implementation work will be a prototype system, which will demonstrate the concept of a dual-mode Internet telephony terminal concept. /Kir10
