The Motion Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) works with the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) on developing efficient ways to digitally compress and store audio and video files and has developed various standars. As the future unfolds itself to new technologies, services that make people´s lives easier and more convenient are bound to capture our imagination. One such service, for instance, could be buying tickets for an important sporting event using a Digital Television. This process involves delivering content in a secure manner while taking the needs of both the consumer and the producer into account. For this purpose, the MPEG-21 standard provides an abstract framework to manage and use digital assets. MPEG-21 also provides frameworks for both commercial transactions and management of access rights for digital assets. Also, the XML metadata schemes, which describe digital assets, and XML databases that manage them are an integral part of this framework. All these technologies are moulded together in documenting, purchasing and using the Electronic Ticket. In this thesis a brief introduction to the MPEG-21 standard was given and technologies involved in implementing Electronic Services such as E-Ticket and E-Postcard were discussed. After that, the actual implementation of the services is described and the evaluations of the results were presented. |
