Abstract: Very High-speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) is the latest transmission method for carrying high-speed digital services on twisted-pair phone lines. VDSL allows speeds from a few hundred kilobits per second on long phone lines to tens of megabits per second on shorter lines. Multicarrier Modulation (MCM) possesses several properties which make it an attractive approach for high speed copper wire communications networks. DMT modulation is a simple version of MCM based on the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) utilized also in VDSL systems. In this thesis, the use of TEQ idea in VDSL systems is investigated. Filter Bank-based transmultiplexer (FB-TMUX) is another MCM approach and also a prominent candidate for future xDSL systems. Comparisons between DMT and FB-TMUX systems in the presence of single tone and narrowband interference are carried out in this work and they show the higher sensitivity of DMT performance to these distortions. /Kir10
