Abstract: Defluoridation of drinking water by using magnesia and polyaluminium chloride (PAC) was investigated in the laboratory and at the pilot plant. The method has shown very good and encouraging results. The combined use of magnesia and PAC for defluoridation allows to reduce the quantity of magnesia and the dosage of polyaluminium chloride. It adjust the ph of the treated water to the acceptable level for domestic use. The use magnesia increases magnesium, sulphate and hardness and it reduces the bicarbonates of water. The use of polyaluminium chloride raises the chloride in water. Althoug the use of magnesia ahd PAC is very effective in defluoridation, it is very expensive. /Kir10
