Identification and assessment of environmental aspects in chemical companies

Abstract

In this work the background of the environmental management in legislation in Finland and in the European union is reviewed with special emphasis on the regulation of chemicals. Two voluntary management systems, EMAS and ISO 14001 are summarised. Methods for identification and assessment of environmental aspects are surveyed, from literature and with a sample of companies. More attention is paid to LCA, life cycle assessment and MIPS, material input per service unit as tools for measuring products' impact on the environment. /Kir10
