NMS/2000 is a network management system for GSM networks. The present architecture of the NMS/2000 system dates back to the early 1990's. However, during the past decade the size of the networks has grown enormously. In addition, the functionality, the number of features, of NMS has increased all the time. Naturally, the servers are much more powerful nowadays than the ones a decade ago but all this has led to a situation where the load between the two servers of NMS/2000 are no longer balanced: While the Database Server is heavily loaded the Communications Server is running with a comparatively light load. The capacity of the system could be improved by balancing the use of system resources. That means the customers will be able to manage a larger network than before. This Master of Science thesis introduces a new dedicated Database Server architecture. In addition to improved capacity, the new architecture also simplifies the system configurations and architecture. Any simplification of the system is important as well because the NMS/2000 system is becoming more and more complex all the time. The architecture of the GSM network management servers under the new OSS3 system will be designed based on the results of this thesis work. /Kir10 |
