Abstract:
|
This paper studies the effectiveness of the objectives, strategies and methodologies of Finnish development aid in Sub-Saharan Africa. The current principles are examined, conclusions are drawn and recommendations are made. The focus is on an approach which promotes maximum impact from the limited resources allocated.- The most important finding was that there are no stated objectives in the Finnish development aid. The three strategies given (alleviation of poverty; repelling environmental hazards; support of social equality, democracy and human rights) are not appropriate and appear more like objectives. Alleviation of poverty, the most important one, is all encompassing to the extent that it would be difficult to design a project which would not fall under its umbrella. Lacking clear objectives and having such generic strategies the Finnish development aid has a poor chance of being effective. |
