AT command interpreter in UMTS terminal

Abstract

As the third generation systems are coming to market, the data services are becomingmore and more important. Many of the services introduced in UMTS require hightransmission capacity. The UMTS system therefore introduces new challenges for theimplementation of the phone software. Also the maintainability of the code is a bigchallenge. As the amount of code increases, the architectural issues and configurabilitybecome more important. The data services of the mobile phones can be accessed by using the AT command interface. This thesis describes the AT command interpreter implementation forUMTS phone products. The new requirements for the AT command interpreter arediscussed in order to understand the need for a new implementation. The emphasis is onthe architectural issues and the design of the new AT command interpreter. As testing isan important part of the software development, the testing of the AT command interfaceis also described.

Tiedonsiirtopalveluiden tärkeyden oletetaan kasvavan kolmannen sukupolvenmatkaviestinjärjestelmien tullessa markkinoille. Monet UMTS-järjestelmän palveluistatarvitsevat suurta siirtokapasiteettia. UMTS-järjestelmä tuo uusia haasteita puhelimenohjelmiston toteutukseen. Yksi suurimmista haasteista on ohjelmiston hallittavuus jaylläpidettävyys. Ohjelmiston koon kasvaessa korostuvat erityisesti ohjelmistonarkkitehtuurin tärkeys ja konfiguroitavuuteen liittyvät seikat. Matkapuhelimen tarjoamia datapalveluita käytetään AT-komentorajapinnan kautta. Tämädiplomityö kuvaa UMTS-järjestelmää tukeviin puhelinmalleihintulevan AT-komentotulkin toteutusta. Uusien vaatimusten vaikutuksia käsitelläänerityisesti ohjelmiston arkkitehtuurin kannalta. Koska ohjelmistojen testaus on tärkeä osaohjelmistojen kehitystyötä, myös AT -komentorajapinnan testausta tarkastellaan ohjelmistokehittäjän näkökulmasta. /Kir10
