Evaluation system for ECG analysis

Abstract

Manufacturing ECG monitors is a difficult task, which needs constant research and testing. Various international standards set strict demands for the performance of the hardware and ECG analysis algorithm of the monitors. There was a definite need for a system which would both evaluate the ECG analysis algorithm and take into account the hardware effect on ECG monitoring.The goals of this master's thesis were to develop a reliable, automated system which would feed the monitor with real patient data on real time and read the results of the analysis produced by the monitor. It should also be able to use the gathered analysis data to run comparison programs and produce results in standardised form. The evaluation system was put together from two standard PCs and an ECG monitor. A LabVIEW -program was written to feed the data from the ECG database CD-ROM to the monitor. The second PC collected the analysis and sent it back to LabVIEW° for comparing the annotations and printing the results.All the goals of this thesis were fulfilled. The evaluation system gave the hoped for information of the accuracy and performance of the monitors and allowed the use of standardised reproducible tests for developing ECG monitors.

AB3:Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena oli luoda luotettava, automatisoitu järjestelmä, joka syöttäisi aitoa potilasperäistä EKG-signaalia monitorille reaaliajassa ja lukisi monitorin tekemän analyysin. Järjestelmän tulisi myös kyetä käyttämään kerättyä tietoa vertailuohjelmien ajamiseen ja tuottaa standardimuotoisia tuloksia. Tämä antaisi arvokasta tietoa monitorien tarkkuudesta ja suorituskyvystä. Se antaisi myös mahdollisuuden vertailla monitoreja kilpailijoiden monitoreihin.- Kyseistä järjestelmää on tarkoitus käyttää ainoastaan monitorin tutkimus- ja tuotekehitysympäristössä eikä sitä ole tarkoitus levittää tai myydä yrityksen ulkopuolelle. Tämän vuoksi työn pääpaino oli järjestelmän toimivuuden kehittämisellä, eikä niinkään sen käyttöliittymällä tai muilla vastaavilla ulkoisilla ominaisuuksilla.
