Architecture of circuit switched data services in Datacom software

Abstract

The software in GSM phones is increasing and getting more complex all the time as new services and features emerge. In order to reach good results the software design process must be well managed. The significance of architecture for designing large software projects is generally understood. Work in the area is going on or starting up in the software development community around the world. However, results can not be enjoyed for a while.This thesis work discusses the Datacom Software component. The purpose of this work is to study the architecture of Circuit Switched Data part of the software, concentrating on the generation currently in implementation phase. The aim is to produce a document that examines the whole entity starting from upper level and gradually increasing the focus. The study of the subcategories does not reach the lowest levels.

GSM-puhelimien ohjelmistot kasvavat ja monimutkaistuvat jatkuvasti uusien palvelujen ja ominaisuuksien myötä. Hyvän lopputuloksen saavuttaakseen täytyy ohjelmiston suunnitteluprosessin olla hyvin ohjattu. Arkkitehtuurin merkitys laajojen ohjelmistojen suunnittelun kannalta ymmärretään yleisesti. Työtä aiheen parissa tehdään tai aloitellaan parhaillaan ohjelmiston kehittäjien yhteisössä ympäri maailmaa, tuloksista ei kuitenkaan päästä nauttimaan vielä vähään aikaan. Tämä diplomityö käsittelee Datacom Software -komponenttia. Työn tarkoituksena on tutkia ohjelmiston piirikytkentäisen datan osuuden arkkitehtuuria, keskittyen parhaillaan toteutettavana olevaan tuotesukupolveen. Tavoitteena on tuottaa dokumentti, joka tarkastelee kokonaisuutta ylemmältä tasolta lähtien, tarkentuen asteittain.
