Abstract:

This thesis concentrates on the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and secure extensions of the protocol as defined in RFC2228. These extensions provide strong authentication, integrity, and confidentiality on both the control and data channels by introducing new optional commands, replies, and file transfer endings.In addition to RFC2228, this thesis introduces a security addition to the Secure FTP daemon as a way of passing the information from connecting host's IDENT daemon to the listening Safe FTP daemon. Furthermore, the thesis presents implementation tests on Secure FTP clients, as well as an introduction on how to hide a server's real host behind varying number of hosts for load balancing and security reasons. /Kir10 |
