Abstract: The aim of the thesis was to study the permeation of coatings for implantable electronic medical devices. Polymeric and ceramic coatings were processes and tested using different techniques. Processing techniques include cast moulding, vapour deposition, and atomic layer deposition. The adhesion between layers was a major concern as well as the in vitro behaviour of coatings. The materials and methods section includes coatings and thin films manufacturing and the report of analyses, measurements and tests. The coating combination include the arrangement of different layers of biocompatible materials. The study was concentrated in which combination of layers could be the most hermetic when immersed in simulating body fluid. The adhesion was evaluated as well as the morphology and thickness.
