Tavoitteena on kehittää akselimaisia kappaleita valmistavan tuotantosolun materiaalinkäsittelyä ja poistaa siihen liittyvät virhetilanteet. The objective of this Master of Science thesis was to reduce the lead-time and to raise the automation level of a cell, which was designed to produce axial pieces. There were two ways to reduce the lead-time: by eliminating material handling errors, and by optimising the programs of a portal type robot. Workpiece placing into and from the hardening furnace was supposed to be automated by an industrial robot. A value analysis was used to find out the best suitable conveyor system. Errors of material handling were not as common as first assumed. Therefore, the possibility to reduce the lead-time was marginal.
