Service discovery for intelligent home environments

Abstract

One important part in the realization of smart environments is the network which connects all the various sensors and actuators together. Sensor information of the user and the environment must be collected from various places and actuators have to be used all around the apartment. Many actuators of sensors can be located within the reach of electric cabling and communication can be implemented through that cabling. However, this is not always the case. Wireless networks give a lot of flexibility to smart home environments sensor and control applications. They can also create a more dynamic environment and help to hide the devices from the user. The thesis dealed with the design of dynamic wireless sensor network with service discovery protocol for intelligent environments, and the implementation of a server software implementing the designed protocol. In the thesis an efficient service discovery protocol for smart environments has been designed and a server software implementing the protocol has been developed, which is used to control the network and provide service discovery services to the network devices and other software components necessary for the smart home operation.

AB3:Yksi tärkeä osa-alue älykkäiden kotiympäristöjen toteuttamisessa on kommunikointi järjestelmän eri osien välillä. Anturitietoa käyttäjän toimista ja asunnon tapahtumista on kerättävä runsaasti useasta paikasta ja talon toimintoja on kyettävä ohjaamaan monipuolisesti. Diplomityössä kehitettiin langattomaan anturiverkkoon perustuva palveluidenhakuprotokolla sekä toteutettu protokollan mukainen palvelinohjelmisto. Tämä palveluidenhakuprotokolla sitoo erilaiset älykodin anturit ja toimilaitteet yhteen dynaamisessa ja muuttuvassa ympäristössä. Työssä kiinnitettiin erityistä huomiota kotiympäristön aiheuttamia vaatimuksia ja tyypillisiä toimintatilanteita varten.
